Gerard Robinson

Board Member, State K-12 Education Chiefs


Gerard Robinson is a Board Member of the State K-12 Education Chiefs at RIDGE-LANE LP.

Mr. Robinson served as Commissioner of Education for the State of Florida, under Governor Rick Scott. He managed 3,000 employees and a $16 billion budget, instituted new initiatives that resulted in record outcomes for students.

Previously, he served as Secretary of Education for the Commonwealth of Virginia, under Governor Bob McDonnell. He supported the education initiatives for traditional public schools, virtual schools, charter schools, and college laboratory schools, as well as 16 public universities, the community college system, and five higher education research centers.

He is the Vice President for Education at the Advanced Studies in Culture Foundation, which finances and utilizes basic and applied research produced at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Culture at the University of Virginia.

Prior, he was Executive Director of the Center for Advancing Opportunity, a Washington, DC-based research and education initiative created in partnership with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund and the Charles Koch Foundation, to develop evidence-based solutions to the most pressing education, entrepreneurship, and criminal justice.

Mr. Robinson was a Resident Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute. He earned a A.A. from El Camino Community College, a B.A. from Howard University, and a Ed.M. from Harvard University.
