Dr. Stuart Macmillan is a Partner in the Sustainability Practice of RIDGE-LANE LP.
Dr. Macmillan served as Chief Scientist at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, advising the leadership team and co-founding new sustainability ventures including the Energy Systems Integration Facility and the New Concepts Incubator.
Prior, Dr. Macmillan held executive management positions at Sun Microsystems, where he oversaw engineering, research, acquisitions, investments and strategy initiatives. He also founded new ventures at Sun Microsystems including Knowledge Systems (AI) and was on the founding teams of SunPro and JavaSoft.
At FMC, Dr. Macmillan was on the founding team of a new Artificial Intelligence research group focused on autonomous vehicles, machine learning and intelligent assistants.
Dr. Macmillan is an Adjunct Professor at Stanford University where he teaches and mentors next-generation leaders to launch sustainability ventures that accelerate global impacts. He has contributed to the Global Climate and Energy Project, Energy@Stanford, SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, the Precourt Institute for Energy, and co-developed Stanford Energy Ventures. Dr. Macmillan has a B.Sc. degree from the University of Alberta, as well as both M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Stanford University.
