Reuben Sarkar is a Venture Partner in the Sustainability Practice of RIDGE-LANE LP.
He is concurrently the Chief Product Officer at Forge Nano Inc., a global leader in surface engineering and precision nano-coatings using commercially scalable atomic layer deposition (ALD).
Formerly, he was Deputy Assistant Secretary of Transportation for the U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), where he oversaw the Sustainable Transportation sector's $600 million annual applied R&D program for the Vehicle, Fuel Cell, and Bioenergy Technologies Offices. His portfolio included advanced batteries, electric drives, smart mobility, light-weighting, fuels & advanced combustion, hydrogen, fuel cells, and biofuel programs across all vehicle markets.
Before joining EERE, he worked at Proterra Inc., a leading manufacturer of electric buses, where he led the development of Proterra’s 1st generation 35-foot all-electric bus and fast charging station as well as product planning for their 2nd generation 40-foot electric bus. Prior to that, Reuben spent more than 10 years at General Motors where he was the most recently the lead engineer on the 1st generation electric drive unit for the Chevy Volt.
Reuben is a Senior Fellow at the U.S. Council on Competitiveness and on the Advisory Board for the Global Energy and Innovation Institute (Ei2). He holds both Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in chemical engineering, as well as an MBA with high distinction, all from the University of Michigan.
