The Hon. Richard Berry
Council of Mayors
The Hon. Richard Berry serves on the Council of Mayors at RIDGE-LANE LP.
Richard Berry served as the 29th Mayor of Albuquerque, NM. On his watch, Albuquerque was ranked second Best Run City in the nation with a population of over 500,000. Mayor Berry has reduced the size of city government and held budget growth to below inflation each year; all while maintaining a high level of service to taxpayers and city residents. Under his leadership, Albuquerque was named as the 2nd most technologically advanced city in America.
Mayor Berry was recently recognized as one of the Most Inspirational People in America by the Washington Post, largely due to the success of a program called "There's a Better Way," which takes a new approach to addressing panhandling by providing the homeless with opportunities to work for the City and connect them to resources and help.
Prior to serving as mayor, he was elected twice to the New Mexico House of Representatives, where he served on the Appropriations and Finance Committee, the Rural and Economic Development Committee, and the Transportation and Public Works Committee.
He is a Senior Fellow at the Yale Executive Leadership Institute, and an advisor for What Works Cities, The Atlas Marketplace Co., Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative, and Cities of Service.
