Dr. Daniel Greenstein is a Venture Partner in the Education Practice of RIDGE-LANE LP.
Dr. Greenstein was the Director, Post-Secondary Education at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, where he currently serves as Senior Advisor to the President, US Programs – Education. He works to substantially increase the number of students who acquire a postsecondary degree or certificate and collaborates with partners to transform higher education models for colleges and universities so that more students—especially low-income and first-generation students, students of color, and working adults—graduate at higher rates, with high-quality degrees or certificates at an affordable price.
Previously, Dan was Vice Provost for Academic Planning and Programs at the University of California Office of the President, where he oversaw academic planning at the university-wide level for 10-campus, 220,000-student system. He managed system-wide academic programs at the University of California Press and the California Digital Library, the university’s Education Abroad program, and served as Director for UC Online Education and integrated online education into the university’s undergraduate curriculum.
Greenstein has led, in some cases founded, several internet-based academic information services in the U.S and the United Kingdom, and served on boards and acted in strategic consulting roles for educational, cultural heritage, and information organizations.
He holds degrees from the Universities of Oxford (DPhil) and Pennsylvania (MA, BA) and began his professional life as a senior lecturer in Modern History at Glasgow University.
