Robert Mocny

Venture Partner, Technology


Robert A. Mocny is a Venture Partner in the Technology Practice of RIDGE-LANE LP.

Mr. Mocny previously served as Deputy Director, Technology and Innovation at U.S. Federal Protective Service (FPS) within U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), where he was responsible for technology, acquisition, and IT policy related to its cyber-physical mission.

Prior, he was Director of the US-VISIT Program and led development of DHS’ biometric identity program. Mr. Mocny was assigned to the DHS Office of Policy, where he performed the duties of Deputy Assistant Secretary and established the inaugural Five Country Ministerial for the Secretary of Homeland Security.

Mr. Mocny led the Information Sharing Policy Office within the Office of Policy and was responsible for developing policies governing how DHS enters into international information sharing agreements; establishing an international information sharing architecture; and negotiating agreements and arrangements with international partners.

He served in senior positions within Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS), including Director of the Entry/Exit Project, acting Assistant Commissioner for Inspections, and Special Assistant to the Deputy Commissioner. While at INS, he led an interagency project team that established the Secure Electronic Network for Traveler’s Rapid Inspection (SENTRI) Program.

Mr. Mocny has received numerous awards throughout his career, including a team Hammer Award from former U.S. Vice President Al Gore for the SENTRI program and the Smithsonian’s Computer World award for the innovative use of information technology.  He is a graduate of the University of California.
